Flying Engineers

In Africa we learned how to face and manage emergency situations. Our staff of the 24h a day technical support service (operating on generating power systems of hospitals, banks, isolated areas, ships, oil-drilling platforms etc) got the chance to admire the spirit and organization of Kenyan Flying Doctors (African Medical Research Foundation) operating throughout East Africa (www.amref.it).

Burundi in 1994: an Italian technician needed medical treatments due to a car accident. In those days, the country was shaken by a coup d'état. The airport was closed and countless raids on villages were perpetrated, and the hospital where the technician was treated was under siege. The technician had to be transferred to another hospital to receive the vital medical care.
The Flying Doctors, contacted via radio, intervened immediately, and after a crash landing they transferred the injured technician to Nairobi, providing medical care on the plane.

If small things can be compared to great things, from that day, we have been calling our technicians the FLYING ENGINEERS. Our spirit in emergency situations in worldwide plants is inspired by the enthusiasm of the Flying Doctors.
